AfriThrive is a 501(c)(3) community-based non-profit organization that seeks to improve the health and overall well-being of underserved African immigrant and refugee families.

  • Vision: To build a sustainable world where every family thrives.
  • Mission: To build vibrant and thriving African immigrant and minority families through access to nutritious, culturally appropriate food, skills development, and economic opportunity.
  • AfriThrive is governed by an 11-member volunteer Board of Directors, supported by a Management team of four full-time staff, three part-time employees, two consultants, and 30 regular volunteers. The Board of Directors is responsible for policy making and overall oversight, while the Management Team is in charge of the day-to-day administration of the organization, implementing programs in line with the policy directions of the Board.
  • AfriThrive runs programs and activities which seek to address systemic barriers to accessing healthy, local culturally-appropriate foods facing African immigrants; thereby building a unique and vibrant relationship with the African immigrant community through its programs and services, which are tailored to meet the underserved community’s critical needs— food and financial security. We grow and distribute culturally-appropriate healthy foods under the following broad framework of programs:
  1. AfriThrive Healthy Food Initiative
  2. AfriThrive Education and Youth Mentorship
  3. Community Gardening and Cultural Farming
  4. Advocacy for African Immigrants
